BANGI, May 8 (Bernama) -- Religious teaching accreditation is not merely a regulatory requirement but also serves as an assurance by state Islamic religious authorities that an individual is genuinely qualified to guide Muslims according to the true teachings of Islam.

As such, holding an accreditation helps strengthen public confidence in the credibility of religious teachers and speakers, while ensuring that Islamic lectures and sermons are delivered responsibly.

For Muhammad Ridzwan Mohd Idris, 29, the accreditation he received has become a “passport” that enabled him to move from online teaching to direct engagement with Muslims at mosques and suraus.

“After five years of actively teaching online, I felt it was finally time to engage with the community face-to-face,” he told Bernama after the Federal Territories Islamic Teaching Accreditation Discourse 2026 held here.

Muhammad Ridzwan, who holds a Bachelor’s Degree in al-Quran and al-Sunnah with Communication from Universiti Islam Selangor, hopes to introduce a preaching approach that is fresher, more relaxed and easier to understand, especially for younger audiences.

“If we rely solely on conventional teaching methods, people may lose interest. So we incorporate elements of training, communication and awareness into the al-Quran programme so that people find it more engaging and easier to grasp,” said Muhammad Ridzwan, who is also a certified religious teacher in Negeri Sembilan.

Meanwhile, Syahirul Idzhar Sham Suri, 26, described the accreditation he received as a major responsibility in ensuring that religious knowledge is conveyed properly and without creating confusion within society.

The Islamic studies graduate from the University of Marrakesh, Morocco, who currently serves as deputy head of Syariah research at Maktabah Al-Bakri, regards former Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri as his inspiration in promoting a balanced and reassuring approach to preaching.

Muhammad Ridzwan and Syahirul Idzhar were among 111 accredited Islamic teachers in the Federal Territories who participated in a voice care training course for muezzins held in conjunction with World Voice Day 2026, jointly organised by Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and the Federal Territories Mufti Department.
