SHAH ALAM, May 6 (Bernama) -- The Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, has urged the public to draw lessons from ongoing global geopolitical tensions, warning that they not only claim lives but could also affect economic stability, socio-political conditions and global well-being.
Expressing concern over the situation, she called on the public to stay alert to current developments, understand national priorities and be prepared to face uncertainties with wisdom and responsibility.
“I call on all Malaysians to continue praying that our country and the region are protected from the adverse effects of these conflicts,” Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin said at the 104th UiTM Convocation Ceremony (first session) at Dewan Agung Tuanku Canselor today.
Earlier, she conferred postgraduate degrees on 290 graduates at the doctoral and clinical specialist master’s levels. Also present was UiTM vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Shahrin Sahib@Sahibuddin.
Amid rapid technological change and shifts in the global economic landscape, she advised graduates to remain adaptable, think critically and stay competitive, while upholding values such as integrity, good conduct and responsibility.
She also expressed appreciation to UiTM for its continued role in developing the nation’s talent, stressing that the institution must uphold its mandate, particularly in safeguarding the rights of Malays, Orang Asli and natives of Sabah and Sarawak in line with constitutional provisions.
“It is our shared responsibility to ensure UiTM continues to play its role in upholding the special position of Malays and natives of Sabah and Sarawak, while safeguarding the legitimate interests of other communities as provided for in the Constitution.
“UiTM must remain true to this mandate, and I do not consent to any attempt to alter or undermine its founding purpose,” said Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, who is also UiTM pro-chancellor.
She congratulated former Sabah state secretary Datuk Kee Mustafa on his appointment as UiTM pro-chancellor, expressing hope that he will continue to contribute to the university’s excellence.
Her Royal Highness also congratulated 25,336 graduates on completing their studies and thanked parents and families for their support.
She expressed hope that graduates would uphold the university’s reputation as its ambassadors, noting that their achievements mark the beginning of greater challenges ahead.
She added that UiTM must continue to produce knowledgeable, ethical and patriotic graduates capable of contributing to the nation’s future.
“As a multicultural nation, we must continue to foster mutual respect across religions and cultures to preserve unity and well-being,” she said.
The 104th UiTM Convocation Ceremony runs from today until May 23, 2026.
