SEGAMAT, May 1 (Bernama) -- The Phase 3 Flood Mitigation Project (RTB) for Sungai Muar, Package 1, which spans 25 kilometres, is now over 35 per cent complete and expected to be ready by July 2029.

Segamat member of parliament R Yuneswaran said around 22,000 residents, including those living in Kampung Seberang Batu Badak, Kampung Pogoh, Kampung Chodan, and surrounding areas that are frequently affected by floods, are expected to benefit from the project.

"Flooding is nothing new for the Segamat district. This area has experienced several major flood disasters, such as the one in 2006 and one of the most severe in 2023.

"In this regard, the implementation of this large-scale flood mitigation project by the Federal government represents a crucial effort to provide protection and relief to residents," he said during an inspection of the project yesterday.

The project costs RM558,983,000, with the main scope of work covering site clearing, earthworks, river widening and deepening, bypass river works, embankment construction, and the construction of outlet structures.

Meanwhile, Yuneswaran, who also serves as Deputy Minister of National Unity, added that Package 2 of the project, which involves Sungai Jementah, is on track to be completed early next year, ahead of its original schedule of 2029.
