Totalenergies Keeps Fuel Price Cap In France During West Asia Crisis

PARIS, May 1 (Bernama-dpa) -- French energy giant TotalEnergies on Thursday announced it will extend fuel price caps at its petrol stations in France for as long as the West Asia crisis triggered by the Iran conflict continues, reported German Press Agency (dpa).

For May, petrol will be capped at €1.99 (US$2.33) per litre and diesel at €2.25 (US$2.63) per litre, the company said.

The price cap has been in place since April 8 at TotalEnergies' 3,300 petrol stations across France.

The company said diesel would be capped at €2.09 (US$2.44) per litre during the long weekends around May 1, Labour Day, and May 8, when France marks the end of World War II.

The company also said it would pass on any fall in diesel and petrol prices immediately if international oil prices eased.

On Wednesday, French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu called on TotalEnergies to let consumers benefit from its sharply higher profits amid the energy crisis.

He was responding to TotalEnergies' quarterly results, which showed profit rising by 50 per cent year-on-year to €5.8 billion (US$6.79 billion).
