SUKMA 2026: Sultan of Selangor Happy With Outcome of Discussions With KBS

SHAH ALAM, April 29 (Bernama) -- The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, has expressed his pleasure following a meeting with the Minister of Youth and Sports (KBS), Dr. Mohammed Taufiq Johari, who was granted an audience to discuss the hosting of the 2026 Selangor Malaysia Games (SUKMA 2026).

According to a post by the Selangor Royal Office on Facebook, His Majesty is satisfied with the organisers' steps to reduce expenditure in line with the current economic climate.

"His Royal Highness also emphasised that all spending for this edition of SUKMA must be restricted to essential matters only, with a focus on sports development and young athletes at the local level," the post stated.

The meeting took place at Istana Bukit Kayangan here today. Also granted an audience was the Director-General of the National Sports Council (MSN), Jefri Ngadirin.

Previously, media outlets reported that the hosting of SUKMA 2026 would proceed following the consent of Sultan Sharafuddin.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) added that the Sultan of Selangor granted his consent after receiving an audience from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim last Thursday.
