Melaka Wants A New Hospital To Address Patient Congestion And Parking

29/04/2026 06:45 PM

MELAKA, April 29 (Bernama) -- The Melaka state government will request from Putrajaya the construction of a new hospital in the state in an effort to address patient congestion and the lack of parking spaces.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said the matter will be brought to the State Government Council Meeting (MMKN) in the near future before the proposal is submitted to the federal government.

"Our population is increasing and the need for healthcare is also growing. I personally visited the hospital (Hospital Melaka) yesterday and I saw that it is indeed a necessity for Melaka to have a new hospital.

"This hospital was built 90 years ago and it can no longer accommodate the large number of patients," he said to reporters after the Melaka State Assembly session at the Seri Negeri Complex here today.

Commenting on the public's complaints about the parking fees at the hospital, Ab Rauf said it is under the administration of the Ministry of Health (MOH).

He said that the steps taken by the MOH, as a result of public-private collaboration, to build a multi-storey parking facility aim to increase the number of parking spaces for patients and visitors.

"This multi-storey parking facility is not funded by the government but built by a private company, and there will definitely be a charge to recoup the investment made by the company," he added.
