PENDANG, April 29 (Bernama) -- A total of 192 families affected by a storm last Monday in the Pendang parliamentary constituency received financial assistance from the Kedah Federal Development Office under the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) of the Prime Minister’s Department today.

The aid was handed over by ICU Kedah deputy director Mohd Redzuan Ab Ghapar as immediate relief to help ease the burden of those affected.

He said the state office will continue to closely monitor the situation and provide further assistance in collaboration with relevant agencies and departments to ensure the welfare of the victims is safeguarded.

“We assessed the impact of the storm and visited Maktab Rendah Sains MARA, schools and several affected homes, before distributing financial aid to help ease their burden.

“We will also review additional assistance required and work with the relevant agencies and departments to channel further aid,” he told reporters here today.

Also present was Malaysia Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF) Kedah chairman Datuk Dr Zulkefli Mohamad, representing Kedah State Development Action Council (MTPN) co-chairman Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

Meanwhile, Zulkefli said close cooperation between local leaders and the community has enabled assistance to be delivered efficiently.

He also reminded affected residents to remain vigilant and safeguard their homes to prevent theft, especially as some structures have been damaged.

“I urge residents not to allow criminals to take advantage during difficult times. Keep valuables in a secure, locked place,” he said.

In the incident last Monday, strong winds and heavy storms affected several villages in the district, including MRSM Pendang and other schools.
