KUALA LUMPUR, April 28 (Bernama) -- The currently screening film Libang Libu has been described as light-hearted entertainment that offers audiences relief amid challenging times.

Beto Kusyairy, the film's star, said audiences seem to enjoy its family-friendly comedy, friendships, and social commentary and leave the cinema feeling noticeably more relaxed.

“With the world facing all sorts of heavy issues like wars, rising prices, and more, Libang Libu could serve as a medium for people to release their stress.

“Many came saying their minds felt heavy before the film, but left feeling more relieved, relaxed, and at ease. That's our goal, to leave people feeling good,” he told reporters after a special interview session here today.

He and the production team were also deeply moved by the reception, especially during the Perak tour series, which felt like a festival with families attending in droves.

“We were really surprised by the incredible turnout. On the road tour, especially in Perak, it felt like a festival. People came with their families, bringing parents who hadn’t been to the cinema in ages, even elderly folks in wheelchairs and with walking sticks,” he said.

The actor said Libang Libu goes beyond simple comedy, blending social critiques that reflect everyday realities through characters based on real people.

“The film reflects society. Characters like Along, Man Filem and others are real people around us, with social critiques delivered casually, without preaching,” he explained.

Beto said the film lets audiences decide for themselves without being pushed, while hoping to open minds so people are less quick to judge others.

“We’re not competing or trying to outshine others. We just want Libang Libu to be a film that the audience can accept and enjoy,” he added.

Libang Libu marks the directorial debut of Bobby Husaini, a familiar name in advertising for over 20 years.

Starring Amerul Affendi and Nabila Huda, and filmed in Perak, the film tells the story of a local community through breezy comedy centred on family drama.
