28/04/2026 06:05 PM

SHAH ALAM, April 28 (Bernama) -- A proposed aerospace-focused industrial development in Sepang, Selangor, is set to become a key catalyst in supporting regional transformation under the Integrated Development Region in South Selangor (IDRISS) framework.

Selangor State Secretary Datuk Dr Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin said the strategic initiative involves collaboration between Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) (MBI Selangor) and SD Guthrie Bhd through the development of a 1,011.7-hectare site at Ladang Sepang, located adjacent to KLIA Aeropolis.

“By leveraging institutional capabilities and industry expertise, this initiative is expected to establish integrated aerospace capabilities supported by smart and sustainable infrastructure.

“The project is designed to support high-value industries, including logistics, as part of a broader and more diversified economic ecosystem,” he said at a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between MBI Selangor and SD Guthrie at Courtyard by Marriott Setia Alam, here today.

Earlier, Ahmad Fadzli witnessed the MoU exchange between MBI Selangor, represented by its group chief executive officer (CEO), Saipolyazan M Yusop, and SD Guthrie’s CEO of Land & Renewable Energy, R. Renaka.

Ahmad Fadzli said the collaboration reflects the state government’s commitment to developing strategically planned mixed-use townships in line with the objectives of the Selangor First Plan 2021-2025.

“It will complement the next phase of growth of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and strengthen the state’s appeal to global investors.

“This initiative is also expected to create more than 32,000 job opportunities by 2030 through integrated industrial development,” he said.

Meanwhile, SD Guthrie chairman Nik Norzrul Thani Nik Hassan Thani said the initiative reflects the group’s continued commitment to supporting high-impact development for Selangor and the nation.

He said that the collaboration builds on a strong foundation of trust following the success of previous integrated development projects in Pulau Carey.

“We aim to create long-term value through strategic land development and industry clustering to support economic transformation in the state.

“Systematic land management can enhance economic value, environmental integrity and social balance, while strengthening investor confidence,” said Nik Norzrul.

Saipolyazan said the MoU underscores the agency’s role in advancing developments that support long-term growth priorities.

He said the industrial development is expected to become a strategic growth node under IDRISS, strengthening the state’s aviation ecosystem by leveraging its proximity to KLIA and existing infrastructure.

“This initiative reflects our continued focus on building a competitive, resilient and sustainable economic landscape to deliver long-term value to the people,” he said.
