KUALA LUMPUR, April 25 (Bernama) -- With over four decades of extensive experience in the judicial system and public service, Datuk Seri Abdul Halim Aman is among the most seasoned figures now entrusted to lead the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

The appointment of the former High Court Judge brings a wealth of expertise built since the start of his career. He is recognised as a highly authoritative figure who has held various key positions within the Malaysian legal system.

Abdul Halim, 69, holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from Universiti Malaya before further pursuing his studies at the University of Hull, United Kingdom, where he obtained a Master of Laws (LLM).

The Melaka-born official began his career in public service in 1982 as a General Administrative Officer at the Public Service Department (JPA) before joining the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) as a Federal Counsel in the drafting division.

Throughout his career, he served as a Magistrate in Kluang and Muar, held the position of Senior Assistant Registrar at the Melaka High Court, and served as Deputy Registrar of the Supreme Court in Kuala Lumpur.

He also gained experience as a Senior Federal Counsel at the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) and the Attorney General’s Chambers, which strengthened his understanding of fiscal law and national administration.

Abdul Halim previously served as an Official Assignee at the Malaysian Department of Insolvency, as well as the Pahang State Legal Advisor and a Deputy Public Prosecutor at the AGC.

Additionally, he once headed the Research Division of the Federal Court of Malaysia, further cementing his expertise in legal and judicial matters at the highest level.

In the judiciary, Abdul Halim served as a Judicial Commissioner of the High Court in Temerloh and Kuantan before being appointed as a High Court Judge, with postings in Kuantan, Penang, Johor Bahru, and Shah Alam. He subsequently served as a High Court Judge in Shah Alam from 2014 until his retirement on March 10, 2023.

Despite a long and distinguished career in public service, the husband of Datin Seri Safiah Md Tahir and father of seven has received the consent of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, to lead the MACC effective May 13, replacing Tan Sri Azam Baki, whose service ends on May 12.

Furthermore, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim expressed confidence that Abdul Halim’s judicial background will enable him to successfully helm the agency for a two-year term.
