IPOH, April 22 (Bernama) -- The Perak Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) seized 1,000 litres of diesel and detained a lorry driver in a raid on a suspected fuel diversion syndicate in Kampar yesterday.

State KPDN director Datuk Kamalludin Ismail said the operation, conducted at about 9 pm under Ops Tiris 4.0, followed intelligence and a week-long surveillance on activities involving diesel believed sourced from several petrol stations in the area.

He said enforcement officers found a three-tonne cargo lorry modified with an additional 3,000-litre tank in its cargo compartment, believed to be used to store the fuel.

"The syndicate is believed to have operated late at night to avoid detection before reselling the diesel to industrial buyers on the black market," he said in a statement today.

A 56-year-old local man, believed to be the lorry driver, was detained to assist investigations.

Also seized were a three-tonne Canter lorry, three Intermediate Bulk Container (IBC) tanks, a pump unit, a hose set and a diesel purchase receipt, with total seizures estimated at RM49,370.

The case is being investigated under the Supply Control Act 1961 for suspected possession or storage of controlled goods without written authorisation.
