LONDON, April 22 (Bernama-Anadolu) -- Sweden’s Foreign Ministry condemned the killing of two drivers by Israeli fire who were contracted by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) to provide clean water to families in Gaza, Anadolu Ajansi reported.
“Sweden condemns the killing in Gaza of two drivers contracted by UNICEF to provide clean water to children and families, as well as the attack on WASH infrastructure, including the killing of one construction worker,” the ministry said Tuesday on X, using the acronym for water, sanitation and hygiene.
It called on Israeli authorities to investigate and ensure that those responsible are held accountable, adding that civilians, including humanitarian personnel, and civilian infrastructure are not targets.
UNICEF expressed outrage on Friday over the killing of the two drivers.
“The victims were killed by Israeli fire in an incident that took place early this morning at the Mansoura water filling point in northern Gaza,” the agency said.
Since October 2023, Israel's genocidal attacks on Gaza have killed more than 72,000 Palestinians and wounded over 172,000, most of them women and children, and destroyed about 90 per cent of the territory’s civilian infrastructure.
A ceasefire took effect on Oct 10, 2025, but has been violated by Israel hundreds of times, with 775 Palestinians killed and 2,171 others injured.
