KUALA LUMPUR, April 21 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) will bring back the songs of the late Sharifah Aini through a concert titled A Tribute to Sharifah Aini on June 6 at the Dewan Filharmonik Petronas.

In a statement today, MPO said the concert is organised as a tribute to the artistic legacy of the late National Songstress, whom it described as an institution in her own right within the music industry.

It said that although Sharifah Aini passed away in 2014, her vocal excellence and extraordinary career journey continue to serve as an important reference in the local music scene.

The singer, once dubbed ‘EMI’s golden child,’ made her own mark in history when her album sales reached Gold and Platinum status. She also recorded about 700 songs across more than 100 albums throughout her career.

The concert, to be led by conductor Ahmad Muriz Che Rose, promises to showcase the many artistic dimensions of the late singer, spanning genres such as pop, ballads, traditional music, and English songs.

The evening will also feature performances by Khadijah Ibrahim, Salamiah Hassan, Asmidar and Shiha Zikir, who will present evergreen hits including Hapuslah Airmatamu, Kenang Daku Dalam Doamu and Seri Dewi Malam.

All these works will be given a fresh interpretation through special arrangements by local composers such as Azhad Sulaiman, Shahhakam Mokhtar, Jenny Chin, Ilham Subri and Luqman Aziz, elevating these iconic pieces through more refreshing and emotionally resonant orchestral arrangements.
