KOTA TINGGI, April  21 (Bernama) -- The Kota Tinggi Bypass Bridge project along Federal Route FT003 is expected to be fully completed by July 28, with construction progress currently at 85 per cent, said Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Maslan.

He said the bridge spans 464 metres in length and 22.6 metres in width, featuring four lanes to accommodate two-way traffic.

The project, which began on Sept 10, 2020 and involves a cost of over RM104 million, includes elements designed for flood mitigation.

“The old bridge, which was low and obstructed the waterway, will be demolished,” he said during a press conference held in conjunction with his visit to the Public Works Department’s district office here.

Ahmad said the department is responsible for maintaining 772.91 kilometres of federal roads and 135.59 kilometres of state roads in the district, covering routine and periodic works such as paving, drainage, sewerage and slope maintenance.

Currently, three federal road projects worth RM10 million and a state-funded flood mitigation project valued at RM2.3 million are being implemented in the district, he added.

In addition, he said, six federal building projects worth RM54.4 million and one state project worth RM2 million are underway, involving the construction of courts, health clinics, sports schools, mosques, skills training institutes and government quarters.

He also said that 24 additional school block projects are planned as a pilot initiative to accommodate student placement transitions from Year Six to Year One next year. These will be built using modular construction methods and the Industrialised Building System (IBS).

Meanwhile, RM8.6 million has been allocated for three projects to upgrade and maintain training institutes, schools and government office buildings.

Ahmad said the Works Ministry remains committed to ensuring all projects are completed on schedule, comply with safety and quality standards, and deliver tangible benefits to the public while supporting local economic growth.
