PUTRAJAYA, April 21 (Bernama) -- The Home Ministry (KDN) will leverage its participation in the Defence Services Asia (DSA) and National Security (NATSEC) Asia 2026 Exhibitions to assess the latest security technologies and assets, in line with the ministry’s long-term planning.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the exhibitions are a strategic platform bringing together local and international defence and security industry players to showcase the latest products in intelligence and modern security systems.
In line with its role of safeguarding national security and public order, he said the ministry continuously evaluates new assets and products which will further strengthen the preparedness of the country’s security forces.
“As a step forward in exploring the potential of new products and such, we will act in accordance with the ministry’s long-term strategic planning.
“As such, exhibitions like the DSA provide the best opportunity for my officers to attend and see for themselves and adapt (the products and technologies) to the needs that we have outlined in our long-term policy,” he said.
He said this at the press conference after witnessing the signing of the procurement contract for the second Multi-Purpose Mission Ship (MPMS) for the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) here today.
Saifuddin Nasution stressed that the ministry will study any potential procurement or improvement enhancements based on the needs outlined in its long-term strategic policy.
“We cannot take a knee-jerk or impromptu approach. The KDN’s approach is that it already has a long-term policy in all matters to fulfil its actual duties.
“This includes improving capabilities in terms of equipment and so on,” he said.
The 19th edition of the DSA Exhibition, held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC), runs until Thursday (April 23).
Asked about the proposed implementation of a new foreign worker recruitment system known as the Universal Recruitment Advanced Platform (TURAP), Saifuddin Nasution said the KDN will provide further views when the matter is brought to the Cabinet level.
“When the matter is brought to the Cabinet, the KDN will present its views at that time,” he said.
Previously, nine Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Members of Parliament said they were alarmed by reports and remarks from Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan regarding a proposal to introduce the TURAP system developed by Bestinet Sdn Bhd (Bestinet).
