BEIJING, April 21 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- The following are the indices of major stock markets worldwide on Tuesday, according to Xinhua.

Asia

The Shanghai Composite Index opened at 4,075.85 points, down 6.28 points, or 0.15 per cent.

The Shenzhen Component Index opened at 14,920.38 points, down 46.37 points, or 0.31 per cent.

The Hang Seng Index opened at 26,442.29 points, up 81.22 points, or 0.31 per cent.

The S&P/ASX 200 index opened at 8,942.80 points, down 10.50 points, or 0.12 per cent.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average opened at 59,031.51 points, up 206.62 points, or 0.35 per cent.

The Straits Times Index opened at 5,010.13 points, up 6.06 points, or 0.12 per cent.

The Korea Composite Stock Price Index opened at 6,302.54 points, up 83.45 points, or 1.34 per cent.

United States

The S&P 500 Index closed at 7,109.14 points, down 16.92 points, or 0.24 per cent.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 49,442.56 points, down 4.87 points, or 0.01 per cent.

The Nasdaq Composite Index closed at 24,404.39 points, down 64.09 points, or 0.26 per cent.

Europe

The DAX Index closed at 24,417.80 points, down 284.44 points, or 1.15 per cent.

The FTSE 100 Index closed at 10,609.08 points, down 58.55 points, or 0.55 per cent.

The Paris CAC 40 closed at 8,331.05 points, down 94.08 points, or 1.12 per cent.
