Malaysian Executive Killed In West Kalimantan Helicopter Crash

PUTRAJAYA, April 18 (Bernama) -- A Malaysian corporate executive has been confirmed dead following a helicopter crash in West Kalimantan, Indonesia, on Thursday (April 16), with authorities working to repatriate the remains, the Foreign Ministry said.

Based on the information from his employer, the ministry said the victim was identified as Patrick Kee Chuan Peng, Chief Operating Officer of Kurnia Prima Nastari (KPN) Plantations, who was in West Kalimantan on work-related matters at the time of the incident.

“According to the Indonesian authorities, the helicopter, registered as PK-CFX and operated by a local aviation company, lost contact shortly after departing from Kabupaten Melawi en route to Kabupaten Kubu Raya.

“The wreckage was subsequently located in a remote forested area in Desa Tapang Tingang, Kecamatan Nanga Taman, Kabupaten Sekadau, and the cause of the incident remains under investigation by the relevant Indonesian authorities,” the ministry said in a statement.

The Foreign Ministry said the Consulate of Malaysia in Pontianak has extended the necessary consular assistance, including coordinating with the Indonesian authorities, the employer, and the family to facilitate the repatriation of the remains to Malaysia. 

The ministry also extended its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased.
