SHAH ALAM, April 17 (Bernama) -- The Selangor government’s initiative to provide free breakfast to students in the state through the Selangor Resilience Enhancement Package will not only ease the burden of parents but also improve the children’s growth amid the global energy crisis.

Most parents welcomed the initiative as the right step to help ease their burden and support their children’s learning needs.

Private sector worker Siti Shamila Che Zahari, 41, said the initiative would be able to ease the burden of parents, especially the B40 group, in ensuring their children receive balanced nutrition.

The mother of one added that the programme would be very helpful, especially for parents who have to leave for work early in the morning, thus reducing time constraints in preparing a nutritious breakfast at home.

“I agree that if this initiative is implemented, it can ease the burden of the vulnerable group, and children will also be able to study well,” she said when contacted by Bernama today.

Another private sector employee, Siti Noor Faezah Muda, 41, said the initiative helps bridge the gap between students from different backgrounds, as everyone would have access to the same food.

She added that nutritious food was important in improving students’ intelligence, especially for those from underprivileged families.

“This initiative is very good, and we can see that the Selangor state government is very concerned with ensuring children receive a balanced nutrition,” she said.

Meanwhile, 46-year-old housewife Hazalina Othman believes that the free breakfast initiative can enhance students’ focus and concentration in class.

According to the mother of two, having sufficient nutrition in the morning not only provides energy, but students are also better prepared mentally and physically, thereby helping to improve academic performance and involvement in school activities.

The Selangor State Government, through 12 Local Authorities (PBTs), will provide free breakfast to students at all 873 schools to ease parents' expenses following the global energy crisis.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the assistance through the Selangor resilience strengthening package will be distributed starting this August.
