Diesel Sent To Philippines Not Extracted From Malaysia - Fahmi

PUTRAJAYA, April 15 (Bernama) -- The government has reiterated that 329,000 barrels of diesel recently shipped to the Philippines did not originate from Malaysia, contrary to reports by several international media outlets.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the claim has been confirmed to be entirely untrue, stating that the diesel was not sourced from Malaysia’s oil production.

“On the diesel issue, the fuel that reached the Philippines did not come from Malaysia’s natural resources. That has been confirmed,” he said at a briefing on the global energy crisis and a post-Cabinet press conference here today.

On Monday, the MADANI Government spokesperson clarified that the diesel was not processed by Petronas or any local oil company, but is owned and sold by a Singapore-based company, Vitol.

“In reality, the oil was not processed by Petronas or any local oil company, but belongs to Vitol and had been sold to parties in the Philippines, with the vessel merely departing from Malaysian waters,” he said.

Previously, Philippine media reported that about 329,000 barrels or 52.311 million litres of diesel from Malaysia were sent to the country to boost its fuel supply amid global market uncertainties.
