PUTRAJAYA, April 14 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT), through the Department of Local Government (JKT), expects more than 400 low-carbon projects to be completed by the end of this year, as part of ongoing efforts to address the challenges of the global energy crisis and implement energy savings.

Its minister, Nga Kor Ming said in line with the MADANI government’s commitment to sustainable development, JKT has set a target to implement more than 200 low-carbon projects each year, starting last year.

“The implementation of this initiative not only supports the national sustainability agenda but also has the potential to significantly reduce the utility costs of Local Authorities (PBT).

“As of last December, a total of 131 solar energy lamp installation projects have been implemented, involving 1,992 lamp units, with a total value of RM15.34 million," he said in a press statement today.

In addition, Nga said that 136 energy-efficient LED lighting installation projects, which have now been fully completed, were also carried out involving 4,513 light units with a value of RM22.39 million.

He also said KPKT will continue to strengthen the implementation of the low-carbon initiatives nationwide by expanding the use of green and sustainable technologies through strategic cooperation with PBTs, relevant agencies and the industry.

“This effort is in line with the MADANI government’s commitment to accelerate the transition to low-carbon development and reduce energy consumption," he added.

Yesterday, the KPKT also issued a statement urging 156 PBTs nationwide to implement six immediate steps to save energy consumption.
