PETALING JAYA, April 14 (Bernama) -- National kegler Muhammad Rafiq Ismail is determined to return to his winning ways at his first championship this season, Thailand Open, from April 17 to 20, even while admitting that his form has yet to be at its best.

Muhammad Rafiq said that his focus is now on several major tournaments, including the Thailand Open, and would use them to raise his performance and help him be selected for the Asian Championship.

“I’m rather disappointed with my previous performance and I hope I can rise back up this year. I’m more focused on being selected for the Asian Championship. That’s our main KPI (Key Performance Index) this year.

“...selection is through the upcoming championships, so I’m focused on the Thailand Open, the Singapore Open and the Malaysian Open as well as several others,” the 29-year-old said at the Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress (MTBC) Aidilfitri event at Mega Lanes, Sunway here today, adding that he did not plan to participate in the next championship in the United States scheduled five days after the Thailand Open.

“According to the schedule, the next tournament is supposed to be five days after the Thailand Open, but I don’t think I’m going to join. One reason is the current global situation.

“While I was there previously, I had to postpone my flight and bear additional costs for changing my flight. I feel that’s something I don’t need to bother with,” he added.
