BARCELONA, April 12 (Bernama) -- A Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) 2.0 participant urged Malaysians to set aside their differences and instead support the humanitarian efforts taken to assist residents in Gaza.

Humanitarian activist Zainal Rashid Ahmad said that differences between some parties should not be excuses to allow the suffering in Palestine continue.

“My friends and I may have differing views, but should they be made into excuses to not participate and do good things for Gaza?” he told Bernama here recently, adding that moral support from Malaysians on social media was critical in spreading accurate information to counter the negative narratives.

Based his experience as a GSF participant last year, Zainal said public support would rise drastically after the flotilla was underway and more information from the field is known to the public.

“After we set sail, we will share more videos and informatio, the focus of Malaysians will swing to Gaza. I’m confident this year, when more explanations and briefings are given, more social media users will start to understand and share,” he said, adding that moral support was vital to raise the spirit of participants who will face various risks at sea, and the possibility of being intercepted by Israeli forces.

The flotilla, schedued to depart from here today, will bring an international coalition determined to break the Israeli blockade on Gaza and to respond to the humanitarian and political crises face by Palestinians.

GSF 2.0 involves over 80 vessels and 1,000 participants from all over the world, combining maritime action with land-based global mobilisation movements, as well as connects solidarity efforts, legal advocacy and grassroots campaigns in various countries.
