KUALA LUMPUR, April 10 (Bernama) -- Malaysian distributor Malik Streams has called on the public to reject piracy following the reported leak of scenes from Jana Nayagan, widely believed to be the final film of renowned Indian actor Vijay as he now focuses on his political career.
In a strongly worded statement on its social media platforms, Malik Streams stressed that leaked scenes constitute piracy and should not be viewed, shared or supported under any circumstances.
“Leaked scenes equal piracy. No support, no sharing, no compromise,” the distributor said, adding that such actions undermine the integrity of the film industry.
The company which is the Malaysian distributor of the film emphasised that every frame of a film represents immense dedication, resources and passion from hundreds of individuals working behind the scenes.
“Behind every frame is hard work and passion. Leaked scenes take that away. We choose to support, not steal,” it said.
The distributor also urged the public not to politicise the issue, stressing that the matter concerns the protection of creative work and the livelihoods of those in the industry.
“This is about art and passion. It is not a political issue. We must support the artistes, technicians, producers and distributors whose livelihoods depend on the success of such films,” it said.
The appeal comes amid reports that leaked scenes from Jana Nayagan, including the title credits and the actor’s introduction scene, have been circulating widely on social media.
As of now, the film’s producers have yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
Vijay, 51, fondly known among his fans worldwide as ‘Thalapathy’ (Commander), was in Malaysia in December last year to promote the Jana Nayagan audio launch, which was held at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium.
The event has since entered the Malaysia Book of Records and is also recognised as among the largest audio launch events in the world, attracting about 85,000 fans.
He has since launched his political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, and is set to contest in the upcoming Tamil Nadu State Assembly election.
Jana Nayagan is produced by KVN Productions and also stars actress Pooja Hegde and Bollywood actor Bobby Deol.
