KUALA LUMPUR, April 9 (Bernama) -- Digital Realty, the world's largest cloud- and carrier-neutral data centre platform, announced plans to invest nearly SG$7 billion in Singapore, reinforcing the city-state’s role as a strategic artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure hub for Asia Pacific. (SG$1 = RM3.11)
According to Digital Realty in a statement, over SG$4.3 billion of the total is earmarked for new data centre developments, building on existing investments.
Digital Realty Managing Director and Head of Asia Pacific, Serene Nah said Singapore is emerging as a critical hub for AI inference in the Asia Pacific.
“This SG$7 billion investment target demonstrates our confidence in Singapore's role as the region's AI infrastructure anchor and our commitment to expanding operational capabilities, innovation facilities, and local talent to support AI at scale," she said.
Digital Realty has nearly doubled its Singapore workforce over the past three years to more than 300 employees and expects to reach 400 by 2030. Nearly 90 per cent of the Singapore team are nationals, highlighting the company’s focus on workforce development and long-term capability building.
The company also operates its Global Command Center in Singapore and plans to launch a Digital Realty Innovation Lab (DRIL) at its Loyang facility in the second half of 2026. DRIL will provide customers with an environment to develop, test, and validate AI and hybrid cloud solutions prior to wider deployment.
Beyond AI infrastructure, Digital Realty is supporting Singapore’s broader digital ecosystem, including early-stage quantum data centre initiatives and educational programmes such as a Digital AI Open House for National University of Singapore students.
With robust connectivity, trusted operations, and strong governance, Singapore is strategically positioned for latency-sensitive AI inference workloads. Digital Realty’s investments, combined with an expanded workforce and innovation capabilities, aim to accelerate enterprise AI adoption across the Asia Pacific.
