JAKARTA, April 6 (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti) -- Australia has secured nearly two months’ worth of fuel supplies amid escalating tensions in West Asia and ongoing volatility in global oil markets, Minister for Climate Change and Energy Chris Bowen said on Monday, reported Sputnik/RIA Novosti.
"Now it's the case that we're okay all through April and now into May. So all the orders are locked in and contracted. Once it's contracted, the fuel belongs to the Australian company that's bought it. So that is legally locked in. So that's encouraging," Bowen told the ABC broadcaster.
Australian authorities have previously said that fuel reserves would last through the end of April, and that efforts are now underway to secure supplies for the following month as well.
The number of gas stations across the country without diesel has since declined and currently stands at 274.
