JAKARTA, April 5 (Bernama) -- Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has condemned in no uncertain terms the attack that has undermined peace and resulted in the loss of three of Indonesia’s finest soldiers who were carrying out peacekeeping duties with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

Prabowo said Indonesia mourns the loss of the three Indonesian National Armed Forces personnel who fell in the line of duty while undertaking a noble mission in Lebanon.

“The state will always be present to honour the services of these heroes, uphold the dignity of our soldiers, and ensure that their sacrifices are never forgotten

“Let us continue the spirit and determination to safeguard peace, and give no room to anyone who seeks to divide the unity and harmony of the nation,” he said, in a post uploaded on Instagram.

The three have been identified as Major Inf (Posthumous) Zulmi Aditya Iskandar, Sergeant Major (Posthumous) M. Nur Ichwan, and Corporal First Class (Posthumous) Farizal Rhomadhon.

Five other TNI personnel were injured in the March 29 and 30 incidents. Private First Class Rico Pramudia sustained serious injuries, while four others – First Lieutenant (Inf) Sulthan Wirdean Maulana, Private First Class Deni Rianto, Private First Class Bayu Prakoso, and Private First Class Arif Kurniawan – suffered minor injuries.

On April 3, three more Indonesian peacekeepers were injured following an explosion in El Addaiseh, southern Lebanon.

On Saturday, Foreign Minister Sugiono said France as the penholder for Lebanon at the United Nations Security Council has approved Indonesia’s request to convene an emergency meeting on the deadly attack against peacekeepers in Lebanon.

Earlier, the remains of the three fallen TNI personnel arrived at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport at 5.30 pm local time on Saturday and were later flown to their hometowns in Cimahi, Magelang, and Kulon Progo aboard military aircraft, following a military ceremony for paying final respects.
