Melaka Takes WRUR To Parliament Level, Starts In Alor Gajah

JASIN, April 4 (Bernama) -- The Melaka government is strengthening the Wakil Rakyat Untuk Rakyat (WRUR) programme by expanding it to the parliamentary level, beginning in Alor Gajah this year to enhance service delivery.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said the move aims to ensure the presence of elected representatives and the government is felt at the grassroots, while enabling faster resolution of local issues.

He said the Asahan state constituency marks the starting point of this year’s WRUR rollout, which adopts a new approach extended to the parliamentary level through a series of programmes over about a month.

“The programme begins in Asahan from April 4 to 11, followed by Gadek (April 12–18) and Machap Jaya (April 19 - 25),” he told reporters after attending the Melaka Sayang Rakyat Aidilfitri celebration here today.

Earlier, he launched the WRUR programme, which Asahan assemblyman Datuk Fairul Nizam Roslan also attended.

Ab Rauf said 11 WRUR programmes have been implemented so far out of 28 state constituencies in Melaka, with nearly 90 per cent of public complaints resolved, while the rest are being addressed.

He said among the key achievements in Asahan is the completion of the RM11 million second Jus Water Treatment Plant, which is expected to begin operations in May and benefit nearly 25,000 users.

The programme has also involved more than 500 Orang Asli through 10 special initiatives to ensure inclusivity in development.

Over the past three years, more than 200 initiatives have been realised, including nearly RM23.9 million in welfare aid disbursed to residents in Asahan alone, he added.

Meanwhile, Ab Rauf said the state does not see a need to implement a work-from-home policy for now, citing Melaka’s small geographical size and good accessibility.

“Melaka has good connectivity and short travel distances, so working from home is not a pressing need at this time,” he said.
