MPYO To Dazzle DFP With Classical Concert On April 15

KUALA LUMPUR, April 2 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (MPYO) will take centre stage in a special concert on April 15 at Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP), showcasing a vibrant programme of classical masterpieces.

MPYO said in a statement that under the baton of Gerard Salonga, the youth orchestra will present compositions by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, including Piano Concerto No.19 (first movement), Overture to The Magic Flute and Symphony No.39, as well as Ludwig van Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No.1 (third movement).

Themed Contours of Classical Beauty, the concert highlights the ensemble’s growing stature as a youth orchestra in the region.

“Adding further charm to the evening, the performance will feature two promising pianists as soloists, 12-year-old Lim Yee Vaine and 17-year-old Dorothy Ong Zhuo En, both set to enthral audiences with their exceptional musicianship,” the statement read.

According to MPYO, Yee Vaine has achieved international recognition, winning Gold at the Yamaha Junior Piano Competition in Japan in 2023, as well as top prizes at the Bangkok International Piano Competition and Steinway Malaysia Youth Piano Competition in the same year.

She continued her success in 2024 with accolades at the Vivace Piano Competition, while her compositions have been recognised by Yamaha Japan and featured by Yamaha Music Latin America.

Dorothy, meanwhile, has honed her skills through masterclasses with renowned pianists from Germany and Finland. She has also performed at the Euroasia Outreach - A Kaleidoscope of Colors II Concert in Johor and participated in several prestigious competitions.

MPYO is guided and mentored by musicians of the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) as part of efforts to nurture young talent and promote appreciation of classical music.

Tickets are priced at RM50, RM100 and RM150 (suite seats), while students can enjoy a special rate of RM25.
