PM Anwar To Hold Talks With State Leaders On Energy Crisis, Economy

01/04/2026 06:06 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, April 1 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is expected to meet all menteris besar and chief ministers tomorrow to discuss the global energy crisis and its impact on the national economy.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil told a weekly press conference here today that the meeting will examine several matters, including measures and joint efforts that the Federal and state governments can undertake in addressing the current situation.

Fahmi, who is also MADANI Government spokesperson, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof is expected to hold a press conference tomorrow afternoon, with a possibility of a follow-up statement from the Prime Minister.

He said the National Economic Action Council (MTEN) meeting scheduled for next week will also continue to assess current developments before any further announcement is made.

On March 27, Anwar said he would call a meeting with menteris besar, chief ministers and key political leaders to receive briefings on the current state of the economy following the conflict in West Asia.

He said briefings by the National Security Council (MKN) and MTEN would help determine whether there is a need to convene a Parliamentary sitting to deliberate on the next course of action.
