GEORGE TOWN, April 1 (Bernama) -- Proceedings against two Myanmar nationals at the Magistrate’s Court here today, in connection with the murder of a fellow countryman at Gat Lebuh Macallum last month, have been postponed to April 23.
Magistrate Tunku Intan Nadiah Tunku Mohammed Nazarin set the new date to allow for the appointment of a Myanmar-language interpreter, as the accused, Myat Thu Khaing and Sein Win Aung, do not understand Malay.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Siti Marissa Safina Saiful Adli appeared for the prosecution, while both accused were unrepresented.
The body of a foreign man in his 20s, believed to be the victim, was discovered in a vacant lot behind an apartment in Gat Lebuh Macallum at about 12.05 am on March 9.
Timur Laut police chief ACP Abdul Rozak Muhammad said the victim, with head injuries, was found by personnel from the Jalan Patani Police Station during a crime prevention patrol in the area.
An autopsy conducted by the Forensic Medicine Department of Penang Hospital confirmed that the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
