ISTANBUL, April 1 (Bernama-Anadolu) -- US-Israeli strikes targeted a port in the southern Iranian coastal city of Bandar Abbas located along the Strait of Hormuz, Anadolu Ajansi reported, citing Iranian media.

“US and Israeli forces targeted Shahid Haghani Port in Bandar Abbas, which is used for passenger and commercial purposes,” the semi-official Tasnim News Agency quoted Ahmad Nafisi, the political, security and social deputy governor of Hormozgan province, as saying.

He added that search and rescue as well as firefighting teams were dispatched to the scene.

Nafisi did not provide details on possible casualties or the extent of damage at the port.

The US and Israel have been carrying out airstrikes on Iran since Feb. 28, killing more than 1,340 people so far, according to Iranian authorities.

Iran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel along with Jordan, Iraq and Gulf countries hosting US military assets.

At least 13 US service members have been killed since the war began, according to official US figures, and the conflict has driven up energy prices and affected shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil chokepoint, with a significant portion of global oil shipments passing through it.
