SHAH ALAM, March 31 (Bernama) --  The biodiesel production capacity from large-scale facilities such as SD Guthrie Bhd’s (SD Guthrie) in Pulau Carey is critical in ensuring supply continuity and supporting the existing biodiesel usage mandate for Malaysia’s transportation and industrial sectors.

Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad said the SD Guthrie biodiesel production plant is highly relevant and creates strong synergy with the National Biofuel Policy as well as the National Agricommodity Policy (DAKN) 2021–2030, which aims to strengthen value-added in the agricommodity sector, particularly palm oil.

During her official working visit to the biodiesel plant in Pulau Carey, she also observed first-hand the plant’s capacity and processing technology, which is among the key contributors to Malaysia’s palm-based green energy industry.

“This plant plays an important role in processing crude palm oil into a cleaner alternative fuel, in line with global commitments toward Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG)-based practices. Continuous initiatives by industry players such as SD Guthrie in enhancing biodiesel production facilities are a progressive step that should be commended,” she said in a statement issued today by the Ministry of Plantation and Commodities.

Noraini highlighted that close collaboration between industry players and the government’s policy framework is key to realising Malaysia’s aspiration of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

“The ministry hopes that this visit will open up more opportunities for strategic collaboration in the future. We also call on more industry players to continue investing in innovation and green technology for the sustainability of the economy and the environment for future generations,” she said.
