Indonesia Defence Ministry, TNI Plan Four-day Workweek To Cut Fuel Use

JAKARTA, March 24 (Bernama) -- Indonesia’s Defence Ministry and the National Armed Forces (TNI) are preparing to reduce ministry’s workweek from five to four days as part of fuel-efficiency measures to mitigate impacts of global oil supply disruptions on national energy stability. 

Head of the Ministry’s Defence Information Bureau Brig Gen Rico Ricardo Sirait said the measures are being prepared in line with President Prabowo Subianto’s call to reduce fuel consumption and avert a potential national energy crisis amid tensions in West Asia.

He said the reduced workweek would involve certain units and limit the use of official vehicles and employee shuttle transport, according to ANTARA News Agency.

“These measures do not signal an emergency but demonstrate the preparedness and discipline of both state security bodies in optimally managing their strategic resources and assets,” he said.

The Indonesian government is expected to announce details of measures including work-from-home arrangement after the Aidilfitri holidays in response to the ongoing conflict.

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa said preliminary estimations suggest the policy could reduce fuel consumption by around 20 per cent, while maintaining productivity and potentially boosting domestic tourism through extended weekend patterns.
