BANGI, March 19 (Bernama) -- With Hari Raya Aidilfitri just a day or two away, many women are not only focusing on the outfits they wish to wear for the celebrations but also on their makeup to ensure they look fresh and radiant all day.

Selecting the right makeup techniques can help enhance their natural beauty while boosting confidence, according to celebrity makeup artist Ezad Ibrahim.

He said looking good on Hari Raya does not necessarily require heavy makeup. Instead, the key lies in techniques that highlight a person’s natural features or natural look.

Known for his modern and minimalist touch, he said the natural makeup approach remains a popular choice as it allows the skin to appear fresher and more radiant without overshadowing one’s original facial features.

“The natural look is not about not wearing makeup, but about enhancing the face so it looks more captivating, glowing and beautiful in a timeless way,” he said after a makeup demonstration at the Royal Raya Fashion Week 2026 here recently.

Ezad, who has more than 15 years of experience in the beauty industry, said many local women still tend to follow heavy makeup trends from abroad, even though such styles may not necessarily suit the skin tone and texture of Asian women.

He said the majority of Malaysian women have medium-toned complexions, which possess a unique beauty that does not require excessive makeup to stand out.

“Look at our mothers… they still look beautiful today. That’s what I mean by timeless. But if makeup is too thick and overly trend-driven, it may look awkward when you look at your photos years later,” he said.

Ezad, who has worked with many well-known artistes including Anzalna Nasir and Nabila Huda, also shared several basic steps for achieving a fresh and long-lasting makeup look for the festive season.

He said prepping the face, including using a moisturiser, toner and primer, is the most important step before applying any makeup. This is because a well-hydrated and balanced skin helps makeup appear more natural and prevents it from looking patchy.

“If the skin is not prepped properly, the foundation will appear uneven. Make sure the skin is sufficiently moisturised so the finish looks smoother and lasts longer, even when you are busy visiting open houses,” he said.

Ezad also said the foundation shade should closely match the skin tone of the face rather than the colour of the hands, to avoid the face looking too pale or mismatched.

He added that the foundation should be applied in a thin layer so the skin can still ‘breathe’, allowing the face to look fresh throughout the day.
