ALOR SETAR, March 17 (Bernama) -- A teenager’s dream of finally owning a new Raya outfit after three years of having to celebrate Aidilfitri using the same clothes came through when he was taken to buy the apparel at a clothing store here today.

Muhammad Hafiz Abdul Wahab, 17, from Kampung Charuk Pisang, Sik, said that he never asked his family for new Raya clothes as he was aware of their financial constraints.

The Form Five student of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Lubuk Merbau said he had been donning the same baju Melayu for a few years as his family needed to prioritise other purchases.

“Alhamdulillah, this year I have the chance to wear a new Raya outfit. I am so happy as I got to select my baju Melayu at the store,” he said when met at the Baju Raya shopping programme, organised by non-governmental organisation (NGO), Persatuan Anak Muda MADANI Kedah, here today.

Muhammad Hafiz, the second of two siblings, said his life hasn’t been easy after his mother passed away when he was just four years old.

He said his breadwinner father is a rubber tapper while his eldest brother, who is 21 years old, is a person with disabilities (PWD).

Meanwhile, another recipient of the aid, Daima Zahara Zakaria, 14, from Felda Lubuk Merbau, said this was the first time she received a donation of Raya clothes.

"Previously, I only bought cheaper Raya clothes according to the family's ability because my parents do not earn much as rubber tappers," she said.

Meanwhile, Persatuan Anak Muda MADANI Kedah chairman Datuk Zuraidi Rahim said in today’s programme, a total of 56 orphans and asnaf children from several schools in Padang Terap and Sik were taken to buy Raya clothes to ensure they also experience the joy of the celebration like other children.

Zuraidi said that overall, the organisation is targeting 370 asnaf children in several areas, including Sungai Petani, Merbok and Padang Terap, to receive Raya clothing donations this year, involving an allocation of around RM50,000.
