KUALA LUMPUR, March 16 (Bernama) -- The MADANI Pre-Syawal Agro Sales programme not only benefits consumers through lower prices for essential goods, but also provides opportunities for local agro-food entrepreneurs to expand their market reach.
Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) chairman Aminuddin Zulkipli said the initiative allows participating entrepreneurs to generate additional income of between RM3,000 and RM5,000 throughout the programme, which runs from 7.30 am to 3 pm.
“This programme aims to meet the needs of approximately 5.5 per cent of the total population in the Selayang parliamentary constituency, which is estimated at 363,289 people based on the 2020 Census data.
“It is also part of FAMA’s continuous efforts to ensure that the public has access to sufficient food supplies at affordable prices, especially ahead of the festive season,” he said.
He told reporters this during the programme, which was also attended by FAMA Director-General Abdul Rashid Bahri and Selangor Women’s Development and Social Welfare Committee chairman Anfaal Saari, at Dataran Ilmu, Bandar Baru Selayang, here.
Aminuddin said the programme is expected to attract around 5,000 visitors, representing about 20,000 households, with a sales target of RM150,000 and estimated consumer savings of RM45,000.
Meanwhile, he said the supply and prices of essential goods such as meat, rice and vegetables remained stable ahead of Aidilfitri.
“So far, supply and prices remain stable, so there is no need for panic buying,” he said.
He added that traders’ compliance with price controls has also been satisfactory, with authorities not detecting any violations so far.
Meanwhile, Anfaal, who is Taman Templer Assemblyman, said 500 chickens were sold at RM10 each while 1,800 kilogrammes of meat were offered at RM30 per kilogramme during the programme.
She added that visitors were also able to enjoy discounts ranging from 10 to 30 per cent on selected items sold at the event.
