KOTA KINABALU, March 15 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today spent about 30 minutes visiting the Ramadan Bazaar at University Apartment (UA), Sepanggar, here.
Anwar, who was accompanied by Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak Affairs) Datuk Mustapha Sakmud, arrived at 4.53 pm and also mingled with traders and patrons at the bazaar before heading to Universiti Malaysia Sabah for a breaking of fast event.
Kuih vendor Francis Sungkin, 42, when met by Bernama, expressed excitement at having the opportunity to meet and take a photograph with the Prime Minister, who visited his stall.
“I am happy because my stall was among those visited by the Prime Minister and it motivates me even more to continue trading with the presence of the country’s number one leader. I have been trading at this Ramadan bazaar for three years and this is the first time the Prime Minister has visited here,” he said.
A visitor, Jerry Soibik, 41, said he did not expect to have the opportunity to meet the Prime Minister when visiting the bazaar today.
“This is my first time visiting this bazaar…coincidentally I brought my son to get a haircut in the area and stopped by to buy food, and I did not expect to run into the Prime Minister.
“Actually my son and I wanted to take a photo with the Prime Minister but did not get the chance because there were so many people…however, I hope that next time we will have another opportunity to meet and take a photo with the country’s leader,” he said.
