UN Security Council To Hold Emergency Meeting On Lebanon Fighting

11/03/2026 12:21 PM

NEW YORK, March 11 (Bernama-dpa) -- The United Nations Security Council will hold an emergency meeting on Wednesday on the fighting in Lebanon as war roils West Asia, reported German news agency dpa.

The council, the UN’s most powerful body, is scheduled to meet at 10 am (1400 GMT) in New York.

Diplomats said the council is also expected to vote on a draft resolution introduced by Bahrain on behalf of members of the Gulf Cooperation Council.

The Gulf states continue to face rocket and drone attacks from Iran.

The draft resolution calls for an immediate halt to Iranian attacks on Gulf states and other neighbouring countries, as well as an end to the use of proxy groups.

Iran-backed groups include Hezbollah in Lebanon and the Houthis in Yemen.

Hezbollah resumed rocket attacks on Israel about a week ago in response to Israel’s killing of Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei, prompting large-scale Israeli strikes in Lebanon.

The Israeli-US military campaign against Iran began on February 28.
