KUALA LUMPUR, March 9 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has congratulated the country’s top men’s doubles pair Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik for finishing runners-up at the All England badminton championships.

Ahmad Zahid said their intense and spirited performance throughout the tournament was truly impressive.

“Although luck was not on Malaysia’s side this time, the fighting spirit you showed has made all Malaysians proud.

“Keep it up, boys! Stay focused, never give up, and carry this fighting spirit into the next match,” he said in a Facebook post today.

In a thrilling contest at the Utilita Arena Birmingham on Sunday, world No. 2 Aaron-Wooi Yik lost 21-18, 12-21, 19-21 to defending champions from South Korea, Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae.

Aaron-Wooi Yik also lost in the finals of the 2019 and 2024 editions.

The last time a Malaysian pair won the Super 1000-level tournament was in 2007 through Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong, who upset then world No. 1 pair from China, Cai Yun and Fu Haifeng.
