AFC Refers FAM Case To Disciplinary Committee After CAS Decision

KUALA LUMPUR, March 6 (Bernama) -- The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has taken note of the decision issued by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) concerning the case involving the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) and several national players.

In a brief statement, the AFC confirmed that the matter will now be referred to the AFC Disciplinary and Ethics Committee for further consideration.

It is understood that the governing body does not comment on ongoing investigations or proceedings involving its Disciplinary and Ethics Committee.

Yesterday, CAS partially upheld an appeal by seven players against the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) on sanctions for falsifying naturalisation and eligibility documents. 

In an operative decision (without grounds) released, the CAS Panel ruled that the seven players shall receive a ban for 12 months, but from official matches only and not from all football-related activities.

The CAS Panel considered that the CHF 350,000 (approximately RM1.8 million) fine on FAM concerning the case was justified and proportionate.

The seven players involved are Gabriel Felipe Arrocha, Facundo Garces, Rodrigo Holgado, Imanol Manchuca, Joao Figueiredo, Jon Irazabal and Hector Hevel.
