BUKIT MERTAJAM, Feb 27 (Bernama) -- The Harapan Ramadan programme, organised by CIMB Islamic Bank Berhad in collaboration with Yayasan Dakwah Islamiah Malaysia (YADIM), is being rolled out nationwide with RM1 million in funding and is expected to benefit around 24,000 households.

Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Marhamah Rosli, said RM45,000 has been allocated to Penang to provide rice, cooking oil, and other essentials to 300 Sekolah Agama Rakyat (SAR) teachers ahead of Ramadan.

“We hope this will ease the burden on SAR teachers and their families, helping them celebrate Ramadan and observe fasting more meaningfully.

“In Penang, we selected SAR teachers to receive the aid, while recipients in other states are chosen based on local needs,” she told reporters after the CIMB Islamic Harapan Ramadan ceremony with the Penang Majlis Amal Islami Malaysia, a YADIM committee made up of representatives from Islamic charity organisations.

Also present were YADIM deputy president Associate Professor Dr Adi Anuar Azmin @Che Wan, state YADIM  director Mohammad Fadzil Alias, and Prime Minister’s special officer Zainol Saad.

Meanwhile, 42-year-old Mohamad Hamzan Hamid, a teacher at SAR Al-Ikram in Tok Bedu, Tasek Gelugor, expressed his gratitude, saying the aid was greatly appreciated and helped ease the school community’s burden.

“Alhamdulillah, I’m very grateful for this programme and CIMB Bank’s support, which has helped lighten our burden. I hope this aid makes Ramadan a little easier for us,” he said.

His colleague, Rozaina Abdul Rahman, 52, who has taught English at the school for 12 years, said the aid brought much-needed relief to the teachers.

“While we usually receive annual aid from the state government, contributions like this from banks are greatly appreciated, showing that the corporate sector cares about teachers’ wellbeing,” she added.
