KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 26 (Bernama) -- The Squash Racquets Association of Malaysia (SRAM) has set a target for women’s singles player S. Sivasangari and men’s singles player Ng Eain Yow to defend their gold medals at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, this September.

Its president, Gerard Monteiro, said the target was crucial to ensure the country’s top players qualified for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

“You now know that the Asian Games gold medallist will be qualifying for the Olympics, so Sivasangari and Eain Yow have to win it and ensure that they get into the 2028 Olympics. Sivasangari is now number six in the world, and we hope that she can break into the top four soon.

“For Yow, he's just sitting outside the top 10. He's working very hard and is making some good changes to his game, he can break back into the top 10 in the near future,” he told reporters after the 2026 Working Committee Meeting at the National Sports Council (MSN) here today.

He said SRAM also planned to hold an overseas training camp in August in preparation for the Asian Games, adding that the national governing body was considering expanding its coaching line-up to strengthen the national squad for the quadrennial Games.

At the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games, Malaysia returned with three gold medals through Eain Yow in the men’s singles, Sivasangari in the women’s singles and the women’s team comprising Sivasangari, Rachel Arnold, Aifa Azman and Aira Azman.
