SEREMBAN, Feb 26 (Bernama) -- The Negeri Sembilan Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Corporation (SWCorp) has issued 190 Notices of Violation (NPK) for littering in public areas and on roads across the state as of Feb 23.

State Local Government, Housing and Transport Committee chairman J. Arul Kumar said that of the notices issued under the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Act 2007, two cases have been brought to court, with the offenders ordered to carry out community service.

“This demonstrates that enforcement is ongoing, and that the state government’s focus is not merely on the number of fines issued, but on improving public cleanliness and reducing offences,” he told reporters after attending the SWM Kasih Santun Ramadan and Iftar event here yesterday.

Arul Kumar said the disposal of plastic waste and cigarette butts in public areas remains the most common offence, despite the introduction of various awareness campaigns and warning signs.

He added that additional rubbish bins will be provided in public areas to prevent littering, and urged private business owners to ensure bins are available on their premises.

In a separate development, the Nilai assemblyman said that any trader renting or selling business space to foreign nationals, including at Ramadan bazaars, will face strict action, including licence revocation and blacklisting.

“Last year, several foreign nationals were found at Ramadan bazaars, and the traders and organisers involved were penalised. I hope this will not occur again this year,” he said.
