JERTIH, Feb 24 (Bernama) -- The Agro MADANI Sales Programme, held in the compound of the Pelagat Area Farmers' Organisation (PPK) Office, here today, saw the public seizing the opportunity to buy local beef at only RM19 per kilogramme (kg).

The price, which was described as extremely cheap compared to the market price of RM28 to RM30 per kg, resulted in 400 kg of beef being snapped up in less than an hour during the sales programme organised by the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA).

Livestock farmer, Mohd Izzat Zaidi, 28, had people queuing at his stall by 8 am, even though the sales only started at 8.30 am, as people wanted to take advantage of the low price to stock up for the fasting month.

"People from various walks of life did not miss the opportunity to obtain the fresh local meat at low prices to be used in their breaking of fast menu.

"Even so, many returned home feeling disappointed because they didn't have time to buy the meat. I didn't expect that all the 400 kg of meat that I brought here today would be completely sold out in such a short time," he said when met by Bernama at the sales location.

Meanwhile, Zawiah Abd Rahman, 70, said she manages to save up to RM50 each time she buys groceries and necessities through programmes such as the Agro MADANI Sales Programme organised by the ministries or government agencies.

She said this doesn’t just apply to beef but other items as well that are sold at cheaper prices thus making her frequent such sales programmes held around Jertih.

"Like today, for instance, I bought two kg of fresh meat. Usually, I only buy one kg due to the steep price of the meat. Besides that, I also bought a tray of eggs for only RM10.

"So it's very economical to buy things at this sales programme. The important thing is that we must always stay alert to find out about sales programmes in our area," said Zawiah, who still works in padi fields and taps rubber too.
