Sarawak Urged To Boost Rice And Livestock Production

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 23 (Bernama) -- The Technical Working Group on Price Stabilisation in Sarawak has called for the strengthening of the state’s rice production, cattle and poultry farming, and fisheries sector, including its supply chains, to make it more resilient and less dependent on external factors.

Public Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, who today chaired the meeting, said higher production would ensure consistent output, reduce waste, and boost domestic supply.

He said supplies of key foods such as rice, meat, chicken, eggs, and fish would be more secure and stable in the long term.

“This initiative could have clear benefits: higher incomes for farmers, livestock breeders, and fishermen; growth in local processing industries; a stronger rural economy; and better-quality, more affordable food for consumers.

“At the same time, price monitoring from farm to retail can be strengthened to make the market more transparent and fairer,” he said in a Facebook post today.

Nanta said the government, via the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN), will ensure prices remain fair and affordable for the public.

“The government will continue to tackle the cost of living in a consistent, focused, and responsible manner, in line with the Malaysia MADANI spirit,” he said.
