Winter Weather Temporarily Shuts Down Vienna Airport

VIENNA, Feb 20 (Bernama-dpa) -- Vienna Airport temporarily suspended operations on Friday, as heavy snowfall led to numerous flight cancellations and delays, reported German Press Agency (dpa).

Only a few take-offs and landings are expected during the course of the morning, an airport spokesperson told the APA news agency.

Winter road maintenance services have been in continuous operation since Thursday evening, according to reports. Around 20 centimetres of snow fell overnight.

Around 1,000 truckloads with a total of around 15,000 tonnes of snow have been cleared so far.

There were also serious disruptions on the motorways, with a key expressway on the outskirts of Austria’s capital temporarily closed.
