KABUL, Feb 15 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- Afghan security forces shot dead four armed robbers and seized two assault rifles following a confrontation in northern Jawzjan province, according to police on Sunday, reported Xinhua.
The incident occurred on Saturday night in the district of Shiberghan, the provincial capital, when suspected robbers opened fire on security personnel, triggering an exchange of gunfire, said police in a statement.
All four assailants were killed in the shootout. A subsequent search of the scene recovered two assault rifles, two hand grenades, and various stolen items, the statement added.
The Afghan government has pledged to intensify operations against criminal networks, including armed robbers, illegal militant groups, and drug traffickers, as part of broader efforts to restore law and order in the country.
