MADRID, Feb 14 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- A 46-year-old woman was killed by wind-blown debris as Storm Nils swept across northeastern and eastern Spain on Thursday, according to Spanish public broadcaster RTVE on Friday, reported Xinhua.

The woman was seriously injured when a masonry wall collapsed near the entrance of the factory where she worked. She was taken to Vall d’Hebron Hospital in Barcelona and later succumbed to her injuries.

Authorities said six people remain hospitalised with serious injuries related to the storm, while more than 80 others required medical treatment.

Wind gusts exceeded 140 km/h in parts of the Catalan region, uprooting trees and damaging street infrastructure and outdoor terraces.

Catalan authorities said they received 5,939 emergency calls on Thursday, most of them in the Barcelona area.

The regional fire service, Bombers de la Generalitat, reported 3,495 incidents, while more than 100 flights were cancelled at Barcelona-El Prat Airport.
