KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 10 (Bernama) -- Sunway Medical Centre, Sunway City (SMC), Malaysia’s largest private quaternary hospital, marked its 100th robotic spine surgery milestone with the AiBLE™ Spine Surgical Suite.
In a statement today, SMC said the technology, launched in February 2025, represents a new generation of robotic guidance support for spine surgery, delivering precision, consistency and efficiency.
The hospital said this milestone demonstrates strong clinical interest and reinforces SMC’s position as an early adopter of the AiBLE™ in Malaysia and across Southeast Asia.
“The suite is used to support surgical planning and intraoperative navigation for spine procedures. With this integrated spine solution, surgeons are supported with detailed three-dimensional planning before surgery and real-time guidance during procedures.
“AiBLE is also intended to enable improved accuracy in placing implants, minimally invasive, fewer intraoperative and post-operative complications, and less radiation exposure,” the statement said, adding that the technology is one of SMC’s efforts in the continuous pursuit of providing enhanced access to quality spine care for Malaysians.
Meanwhile, SMC Chief Executive Officer Dr Seow Vei Ken said the 100th procedure milestone reflects the strength, collaboration and technological advancement of the multi-disciplinary team at the hospital’s Robotic Surgery and Minimally Invasive Surgery Centre.
He noted that by integrating the AiBLE™ suite with the hospital’s existing high-end MRI and CT imaging systems, clinicians are better equipped to treat even the most intricate spinal cases.
“This milestone is a testament to our teams, and we will build on that foundation to continue advancing innovation, clinical excellence and positive patient satisfaction,” he added.
Building on this success, SMC was recently recognised as number one in Malaysia and internationally ranked among the World’s Best Smart Hospitals 2026 by Newsweek, a ranking that highlights hospitals leading the way in leveraging technology such as AI, digital imaging, and robotics to improve patient care.
The hospital also recently held a commemorative event for this milestone, highlighting the technology’s impact on patient care.
SMC is the first private hospital in Malaysia to achieve three major hospital-wide accreditations: the Joint Commission International (JCI) Accreditation Gold Seal of Approval from the United States, the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards International (ACHSI), and the Malaysian Society for Quality in Health (MSQH).
