BANGKOK, Feb 9 (Bernama) -- More than 4.11 million passengers are expected to travel through Thailand’s six major airports during the Chinese New Year holiday from Feb 13 to 22, Airports of Thailand (AOT) said.
AOT president Paweena Jariyathitipong said the surge reflects rising air traffic during the festive period, driven by steady growth in passenger numbers and flight frequencies on China routes.
She added that the trend is in line with the continued recovery of the aviation and tourism industries.
“AOT expects more than 4.11 million passengers to travel through its six airports during the Chinese New Year holiday, including approximately 2.6 million international passengers and 1.51 million domestic travellers.
“Total flight movements are estimated at 24,847, comprising about 14,295 international flights and 10,552 domestic flights,” she said in a statement on Monday.
To accommodate the anticipated surge in travel demand, Paweena said AOT has ensured operational readiness across all six airports, with a focus on passenger facilitation, safety, and the delivery of a positive travel experience under its ‘World Class Hospitality’ approach.
She added that interpreters have been deployed to assist foreign passengers, particularly Chinese tourists, while technology and innovation have been introduced to reduce waiting times, improve passenger flow, and enhance overall travel efficiency.
“Services will emphasise warmth, attentiveness, and friendliness, reflecting Thai hospitality through courteous and considerate service at every stage of the journey,” she said.
Paweena said all six AOT airports have intensified screening and surveillance measures to prevent the spread of the Nipah virus.
“AOT is working closely with international communicable disease control checkpoints to monitor the situation and has implemented screening measures for passengers arriving from high-risk countries or areas,” she said.
With passenger volumes expected to peak during the festive period, she advised travellers to arrive at airports at least two to three hours in advance to avoid missing their flights.
